Creating and Deploying a Website on GCP in 5 MINUTES for FREE! (Hugo Website + Caddy Webserver)



In this video, I create and deploy a website running in the cloud in less than 5 minutes, including the time to set up and configure a new Google Cloud Platform project!

This setup is the exact configuration I am using (as of February 2020) to run

Technologies used:
– Hugo ( — static site generator
– Caddy ( — web server with automatic HTTPS configuration
– Containers — to bundle site and server for deployment
– Google Cloud Platform — the webserver is running on a Compute Engine virtual machine

  1. That was fast indeed but was it for FREE? According to this doc [1] there's a flat cost for external IP addresses (reserved or not) attached to VM instances. External IP addresses assigned to instances used to be free but that was changed few months ago.

    Edit: actually it's still free until the 30th of June – this is the end of grace period.
