    how to fix this problem

  12. Financial question: I make and update WordPress website's as my job,
people spend a fixed fee of around 25€ per month + our hosting costs. I'm just not really sure what the normal practice is when a website brakes
Do you fix it as part of the 25€ fee?
or do you revert the site to an older backup and contact the client?
or do you try and fix it for 30~45minits and than revert it if you cant fix it? (because if you fix it in that time you don't have time to check the website)
and also how do you continue the client relationship after you installed an older backup because now it is a website that cannot be updated without the site breaking.

I would love you and your commenters input on this.

PS: during the update, I already fix and update WAY More than I should (like installing SMTP mail & mail logging for security, or installing recaptcha.
I also do it because it makes my life easier as the system admin)

  13. This is an amazing video. It's hard to imagine any troubleshooting video that includes anywhere near this much helpful advice presented so clearly as this one. It's AMAZING. It's also amazing (and a bit shameful) that this video has so few likes…if there were any justice in the world, this video would have over a million likes.

  14. i'm just trying to set up my blog and got this problem. I called my host provider and they cant help. do you have any videos how to fix this or any advise please.

Background updates are not working as expected. Background updates ensure that WordPress can auto-update if a security update is released for the version you are currently using.

Error A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().
Passed No version control systems were detected.
Passed Your installation of WordPress doesn't require FTP credentials to perform updates.
Error Some files are not writable by WordPress:

  15. Great video, thank you for making it. I'm fairly new to WordPress and have successfully broken a website several times after updating plugins. In the end our support company sorted it out but I want to know what to do myself. Ignoring updates is not an option. I do shudder when I see a bunch of them waiting and ask myself "what are you going to break now?". Doing a full backup before hand is a good way to go. You did mention that a few times 🙂 . Recently we had some functionality of the website break from updates that were done in previous weeks. In other words we didn't know anything was broken until we tried to do something weeks later (create a new event in events calendar). Any tips on checkouts to do after updates? Apart from browsing a few pages and perhaps trying a few test regular activities I don't think you can do much.

  16. installed the plugin and click the troubleshoot , even try to go to the link but it shows "Error establishing a database connection" X( i don't know where to go next…

  17. hey Dave ,

  19. Thank you for an excellent video tutorial. I've subscribed because people like you with tutorials like this are just what I need to develop my skills and, particularly to have reliable expertise at my fingertips to solve problems. There is currently a problem when I try and access my Front Page via my dashboard. So at least I can access my dashboard and all other pages, galleries, blogs etc can be accessed. It's only the front page that comes up with the "Critical Error" warning page preventing me from going any further to access the page to make edits. I am therefore following your various steps and suggested plug ins to download to investigate and roll back etc. I'm assuming its an incompatibility with the recently updated plugins but I don't know. And yes I have used UPdraftPlus to create backups ( to the server and also to DropBox), although I (shamefully) did not have a backup until I loaded UpdraftPlus and so I don't have a backup that predates me finding this current problem. My webhost does have backups but stupidly I hadn't done my own backups until now. Mea Culpa. However, I have now discovered that I cant get PlugIn Detective to work. I've installed and activated it (version 1.1.6) and I notice that it says "Warning: this plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress." Whilst Detective Otto Bot appears, when I click on "open a new case" all I get is a white screen and a green circle arrow back button to WordPress. So, Help! I thought I was on my way to solving my Front Page access issue but now I cant even use the Detective ! My website is using WordPress 5.4.1 using the Sydney theme which I understand is up to date and all Plug ins are updated to latest versions (as far as I know.) Please help. Thanks you in anticipation. Terry.

  20. Great video thanks, I clicked update as usual on my wordpress site and got the WSOD, later I changed the PHP version to 7 from 5.4, so I’m in quite a mess at the moment

  21. Hi, anyone having trouble with plugin detective? After installing it I get a white screen when I click on "Troubleshoot Plugin Conflicts" I am running WP 5.3.2 with latest Elementor and Hello Theme.
