Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated, and open certificate authority (CA), run for the public’s benefit. It is a service provided by the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG).

The fundamental principles behind Let’s Encrypt are:

Free: Anyone who owns a domain name can use Let’s Encrypt to obtain a trusted certificate at zero cost.

Automatic: Software running on a web server can interact with Let’s Encrypt to painlessly obtain a certificate, securely configure it for use, and automatically take care of renewal.

Secure: Let’s Encrypt will serve as a platform for advancing TLS security best practices, both on the CA side and by helping site operators accurately secure their servers.

Transparent: All certificates issued or revoked will be publicly recorded and available for anyone to inspect.

Open: The automatic issuance and renewal protocol will be published as an open standard that others can adopt.

Cooperative: Much like the underlying Internet protocols themselves, Let’s Encrypt is a joint effort to benefit the community, beyond the control of any one organization.

  10. This is one of the best videos I have ever seen in the history of all YouTube videos. This video not only changed my life, but it brought me back to my family. I was poor before this video and now I am rich. Thank you.

  14. Hi, thank you very much it works great, just one problem when I just tape in my domain like www.domain.com it doesn't redirect me to https is there anyway we can fix this?
    thanks again

  15. FANTASTIC Tutorial! Thank you very much for this! HUGE life saver!

To renew the cert, I had to update the DNS Values. Without updating the DNS values to the new ones that are provided by SSL for Free, it wouldn't let me download new certs to input into my SSL settings. It gave me an error saying it was being blocked.

So, simply updating your DNS values and downloading new certs did the trick for me. Clicking the "Renew" link takes you back to the initial page where you choose Manual Verification (DNS). It won't automatically renew it for you, so yes, you'll have to go through the steps again. But this time it should be faster since you already have the TXT names in your DNS settings. Just edit them and change the values. Then just go through the steps again copying and pasting into your SSL settings.

You'll have to do this every 90 days. Not a biggie considering how much money you are saving!

Hope this answers all the renewal questions!

  16. I no longer have a cpanel on my godaddy page, i believe because i have a wordpress page. Godaddy says it needs to be done directly through WordPress but after finding several videos none of them tell me how to install the ssl cert before using the plugin. any advice?
